Fabulous Fonts

I have always had an affinity for vintage letters.  I don't know what it is about them that is so appealing to me, maybe the soft shapes of lower case font or crisp clean lines of the capital signs mixed with the soft patina that is achieved only through time.  One of my favorite design families, the Novagratz's, who are premiering on HGTV tonight, use lettering frequently.  For inspiration and celebration of their new show, I have included favorite images below. I am off to see if I can find some of these beauties for myself:)
To select well among old things, is almost equal to inventing new ones

Second Supper @ Herby-K's

When the boys were young, one sweet child, who shall remain nameless, would always ask for more food within an hour of eating dinner.  He didn't just mean a second helping from the previous meal; he meant an entirely fresh start, something else, something different.  He was always hungry...again:)  Our family began calling this fourth meal of the day, second supper.  It has been years since I have even thought of second supper, but tonight I think Mike and I had an extremely late lunch and early supper or we had both a first and second supper.
We were driving around looking for a granite store and realized we were just around the corner from a favorite haunt of long ago.
Herby- K's, a Shreveport landmark.

Home of the infamous Shrimp Buster!
Yummy fried goodness - does it help that the first supper was a green salad?
Herby-K's, celebrating their 75th year, holds many memories.
Mike and I spent many a Friday night atop these red barstools sharing a meal.
It's funny how sights and sounds take you back.  After a few shrimp bites dipped in their signature sauce, I found myself grinning at him like a goofy love struck girl.

Outdoor Space Transformed

Today was a Color Splash marathon featuring one of my favorite designers, David Bromstad. I have loved his work since I first saw him on Design Star years ago. While I wasn't able to curl up on the couch and watch the many episodes, I was able to see the end of one fabulous make over. The Color Splash team took an outdoor patio that lacked character and transformed it into a vibrant space perfect for entertaining.

Love the rustic table crafted from reclaimed timber paired with the clean lines of the outdoor chairs and the galvanized tub coffee table that can be used to ice down drinks during a party.

Red Door Interiors

I spent the day wandering through one of my favorite places, Red Door Interiors. The ladies of Red Door have put together an eclectic mix of fun and funky items perfect to spark any imagination.

Dreamy Malibu Retreat

I am loving the latest issue of Elle Decor featuring Courtney Cox's Malibu retreat. The house is a beautiful mix of whites and woods, rooms that seem to flow one into another, and of course, the gorgeous view of the water.

Bright, White Kitchens

"The past two decades of designing kitchens there has been one constant; the timelessness of a white kitchen."~ Marin Kitchen Company Good thing, because 10 years ago when we built that is exactly what we picked. I still love walking into the bright, cheery space. While we are now considering updating a few surfaces, we are keeping the white!

New Blog Inspired

I have blogged off and on for years. Classroom blogs. Professional development posts. Stories about faith and friends. I love both reading and writing blogs. They provide a snapshot in time. A diary of sorts. A collection of ideas. I see inspiring images all the time. Sometimes I tear out a page from a favorite magazine or snap a quick pic with my phone. Then, without fail when I am looking for THAT picture, I can't seem to remember exactly where I put it:) Lately, I have been capturing images with my iPad. While I am enjoying creating my own digital library that I can flip through like a favorite magazine, my memory is filling up fast. With this blog, I hope to create a limitless scrapbook of style ideas, house and garden inspirations, things to try, and places to see.
